The Center has been a regional leader in treating brain injuries and other neurological conditions for more than 25 years. In 1986, a group of Missouri families and medical professionals created a specialized program to meet the needs of survivors of brain injuries. It was the first of its kind in the Midwest. What began as a single treatment and support program has become a specialized multi-service organization. Today, we provide a variety of vocational, medical and independent living services and supports to assist people with brain injuries, autism, visual impairments, developmental disabilities and veterans with disabilities all customized for each person we serve to reach their maximum potential. The Center for Head Injury Services is changing lives by helping people with brain injuries, autism, developmental or neurological challenges learn the skills they need to build an independent life. Since 1986, we have been teaching people to be a part of their community, perform employment-related tasks, find and keep a job, and live independently in their own home. People with disabilities want to work, to be productive and have structure and purpose in their daily life. We are committed to helping people achieve that goal. A head injury does not have to be the end of a person’s work life. A developmental disability does not mean a person cannot lead a self-directed life, and a diagnosis of autism does not automatically mean social isolation. The Center is sweeping away these barriers and creating opportunities in people’s lives; opportunities that lead to success and brighter futures.
