For adult clients with disabilities who require daily supervision, Goodwill offers two unique, safe and nurturing environments that provide sensory stimulation, calming activities and personal involvement. Individuals can take advantage of one of two Snoezelen multi-sensory environments. What’s Snoezelen, you ask? The word is a combination of two Dutch words: snufflen (to sniff, seek out, or explore) and doezelen (to relax or be in a wonderful place). Snoezelen incorporates specialized sensory equipment and materials that can be individually customized to blend sights, sounds, textures, aromas and motion to provide stimulation and calming of the primary sensory systems. Our north location also offers therapeutic benefits of a Snoezelen multi-sensory environment—but provides it in the form a Snoezelen pool. Like the Snoezelen room, a Snoezelen pool also creates a gently stimulating environment by combining underwater lights, soothing sounds and textures that stimulate tactile senses—along with the therapeutic benefits of a warm therapy pool. And, thanks to adaptive equipment, individuals of all abilities can utilize the pool. Guests who enjoy being in the water will love the stimulation and relaxation of our Snoezelen therapeutic pool.
